Caffeine Test Strip Instructions
Prepare
- Take out one test strip.
- Use a small spoon to remove a small sample of black coffee. Note that the test is designed for black coffee only.
Test
- Place the test strip into the sample with the arrow end pointing into the sample. Do not allow the level of the sample to go above the line at the end of the arrow.
- Leave the test strip in the sample for 1 minute.
- Remove the test strip from sample and place on a flat surface. Wait 5 minutes.
Read result
One or two red lines will develop on the test strip. Compare test strip to the diagrams below to interpret results.
- Result: DECAF
Two lines indicate the sample is DECAFFEINATED. - Result: REGULAR
One colored line indicates the sample is NOT DECAFFEINATED.
If no lines appear, result is not valid. Repeat procedure with a new test strip.
A typical cup (8oz) of decaf coffee contains 2-5 milligrams of caffeine. A typical cup (8oz) of caffeinated coffee contains about 80-100mg of caffeine.
A sample with less than 20 milligrams of caffeine per 8oz will be classified and shown as Decaf.
